Gunnison Landing Net is a design named after the river that flows through the town, where I attended College.  Western State College (back when) in Gunnison Colorado is home to some great waters to fish from Taylor Reservoir, Crested Butte down to Blue Mesa Reservoir.  From my grades in college, it was evident that I spent more time fishing than I should have thus I felt the design that features a slightly mitered head should be named after my college Town.  The Gunnison features a 8 inch wide 16 inch deep net area with a slightly pointed top. This is a great net for wade fishing or stream fishing.

Net frames are composed of 3 separate layers of hardwood approximately 1/8” thick that are steamed, glued, and bent around a frame to form the net.  Nets are finished with two coats of tung oil and 6 coats of Spar Varnish.  Each net comes complete with an aged brass D-ring to be able to attach to any type of lanyard or carabiner of choice.  The hole the D-ring goes through is lined with brass tubing to provide long life of wear and to seal the wood from taking on moisture.  This handle design on the base of the net is designed to avoid splitting issues that come with the use of eye hooks.   The net itself is a rubber net that is the safest for the fish and each net is triple stitched to the frame to provide a long life of use. Each handle is made from hardwood to provide long, comfort and an individual look no one else will have on the stream.  The landing net frames finish thickness is ¾” thick.  Brass pins in the handle are set and approximately 2” intervals to aid in the measurement of your catch.

All Rustic Angler Forge nets are handmade one at a time in my shop located in the San Luis Valley of Southern Colorado.  The San Luis Valley is where the Rio Grande and the Conejos Rivers provide some of the finest trout waters in the state and the headwaters to the Rio Grande Cutthroat.  Each net is individually designed and there are no two nets produced alike.  The simple changes in wood grain provide a different look and personality to each net.  Purchasing one of these nets is choosing an heirloom that is one of a kind at a price that doesn’t limit taking it to the stream every trip to land that perfect trout and making great memories.
